You can search for videos using the magnifying glass icon in the left sidebar. To watch a video, just highlight it and press OK on your Roku remote. It'll start playing immediately — albeit usually after a few ads.
After you've logged into your YouTube account, you'll have access to your playlists. You can also add videos to your playlists as you browse through YouTube. Playlists are available from the left sidebar menu. The YouTube app for Roku has a handy guest account that can be used to watch free content without logging into a Google Account. You won't need additional set up to jump into your favorite videos after installing the Roku YouTube app.
YouTube Premium , formerly called YouTube Red, is a paid subscription that includes commercial-free viewing, unlimited music streaming , and access to YouTube Original shows. Use the search option to find the content you'd like to watch, or visit your followed Premium channels. But there are workarounds. Click that and sign into your YouTube TV account to be brought there. Don't delete the app, because if you do, there's no getting it back.
You can also access content you previously purchased through YouTube or Google Play Movies and TV — these purchases will show up in the Purchases section of the app. Content eligible for Google Play Family Library can also be viewed on the Roku YouTube app from accounts with access to your shared library of titles. Using the YouTube mobile app, you can cast video from your phone to Roku. This will launch the app and video on your Roku right away.
If you don't have an Apple device, you could also use Roku's built-in screen mirroring, which works with most Android phones and Windows PCs. Here's how. Per Roku's support page , the following devices are required for AirPlay:.
To use AirPlay with Roku, the first step is to make sure your Roku is updated to the latest software and that your Apple device is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Roku. YouTube TV does not, however, have AirPlay built into its Chrome player for computers, so this is a little more complicated if you want to stream YouTube TV without broadcasting your whole computer. In my experience on a recent Roku TV this worked pretty well, though you will need to switch channels with your Apple device.
Mac users should set their computers to Do Not Disturb to ensure the least interruptions. One other thing: You will want to keep your device on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network to make sure the stream doesn't cut out.
If you have an Android phone, you can cast from it using screen mirroring. Available on Rokus for years, this feature has been found on most Android phones for a while with the exception of Google Pixels, which don't support it and brings your phone's screen onto the TV. Most Roku TVs and streamers support the feature. Enabling this feature, however, is a bit complicated, as different phone-makers have given it different names. Samsung, for example, calls it Smart View on its latest Galaxy phones, and it can often be accessed by pulling down on the notification shade.
Once you find the name, it's pretty easy to set up. This site receives a small portion of each purchase, which helps us continue to provide these articles. Have a question about new TV technologies? Please include your first name and hometown in your message.
And I will never buy another Roku product. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed. Home Contact About Search. Search for: Search.
